The Best of a British Education

When there are constant debates surrounding education and a focus on the bad rather than the good, it can be easy to forget the myriad of wonderful things there are about studying in Britain. For example, in a 2014 Global League survey, the UK was ranked sixth in the developed world for education (ahead of the US, Germany and France). So, what is there to celebrate about British education?

Studying in Britain means you are receiving a word-class education, and you are set to gain qualifications that are respected by employers and academics alike worldwide.
All UK schools, colleges and Universities are required to pass strict quality standards set by the UK government and education bodies and are routinely monitored to ensure that standards are kept consistently high.
UK Universities and colleges have worldwide reputations for research, innovation and creativity. Furthermore, four of the top six universities in the world are in the UK. These are: Cambridge; Imperial College London; Oxford; and University College London.
In the 2014 Global League survey, not only was the UK ranked sixth in the developed world for education, it was ranked second best in Europe. Taken into consideration in the survey were rates of higher education study and graduation rates, international tests and education data. Britain’s high status both in Europe and in the developed world highlights Britain’s global power.

The UK has a host of world-class museums, castles, galleries and historical places of interest to perfectly compliment your education. For example: the British Museum – which was ranked fifth in National Geographic’s Top 10 Museums and Galleries; a variety of castles that you can visit; or even Shakespeare’s Globe where you can enjoy one of the Bard’s plays as it was intended.

The UK has the lowest university drop-out rate in Europe, which is testament to both the academic strengths of British education and the various support systems surrounding universities and their students.

In UK independent schools, there are on average 9.4 pupils to every teacher, meaning that pupils get a more tailored education, more assistance and more attention.

The UK is a global hub for business and industry. Britain’s position between American and Asian time-zones situates it in the heart business and industry, with many major corporations having their head offices in London. Studying in the UK puts these companies within touching distance.

The UK is second in the world for university-industry collaboration. British universities encourage practical experience as well as academic knowledge of subjects, in order to gain experience and an understanding of business and industry. University-industry collaboration makes graduates more employable due to the important balance of academic qualifications and hands-on experience.

Britain is a multicultural society, and schools and universities are becoming increasingly international. Therefore, the UK’s students are more culturally sensitive and aware, and education systems are more well-rounded and adaptable to other cultures.

England’s and Scotland’s capitals are both renowned cities of literature. London and Edinburgh have, between them, over a thousand notable novels and poems celebrating their cities. A British education means being able to visit, or indeed live within, cities that are alive with thousands of stories.
